Galsi gas pipeline

GALSI pipeline
a new environmental destruction?

The Legal intervention group is Friends of the Earth presented to the Minister of the Environment, the Regional Councilor for Environmental Defense and the European Commission a series of considerations to prevent the new Galsi gas pipeline, an underwater gas pipeline that from Algeria must arrive in central Italy via Sardinia (project born following an Italy-Algeria intergovernmental agreement in 2001) pass through a series of unique natural habitats that would thus be destroyed: the area that goes from Santa Caterina to Porto Botte, in front of the island of Sant'Antioco .

Work will begin in October and few talk about it. If the project's route is not changed, several areas of natural interest will be wiped out along with numerous animal and plant species.
