There Helxine it is particularly suitable as a ground cover plant or to be grown in hanging baskets with a great decorative effect.

There are numerous varieties of this plant among which we remember theHelxine soleirolii var. aura characterized by ivory white or very light yellow leaves; thereHelxine soleirolii var. silvery with silver foliage.

CULTURAL TECHNIQUE

The Helxine they are very easy plants to grow and do not require special care. They are very fast growing, so much so that they also become intrusive and can be grown both in the shade and in full sun as long as they are protected from direct sunlight during the hottest hours of summer days.

Minimum temperatures should not drop below 4 ° C.

WATERING

The Helxine it loves humid environments therefore it is important to ensure good humidity throughout the year with regular and abundant watering, without soaking the soil. If the temperatures drop significantly, it is good to leave the plant dry in order to avoid freezing the roots.

TYPE OF SOIL - REPOT

They are not particularly demanding in terms of soil: a good soil based on fertile soil and peat mixed with a little coarse sand is perfect for this plant.

Repotting is done preferably in spring, using capacious pots in consideration of the fact that they are very fast growing plants.

FERTILIZATION

At Helxine it is sufficient to administer a liquid fertilizer once a month that you will dilute in the irrigation water by slightly decreasing the doses compared to what is reported in the package.

Always use complete fertilizers, i.e. fertilizers that in addition to having nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), also have microelements such as magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), ilboro (B), molybdenum (Mo), all important for plant growth.

FLOWERING

The flowering and therefore the flowers are quite insignificant in any case it blooms during the summer period.

PRUNING

The Helxine they are plants that cannot be pruned; only the parts that dry out should be removed to prevent them from becoming a vehicle for parasitic diseases.

MULTIPLICATION

The multiplication of Helxine occurs by division of the plant.

PLANT DIVISION

In spring, simply take the plant and divide it into several portions and then each portion plant it in separate pots using a soil as indicated for adult plants and treat them as such.

PARASITES AND DISEASES

They are not particularly disease-prone plants.
