Detailed description of the grape variety Libya
The culture that has such a sonorous name is not known to every gardener. But everyone who has had a chance to feast on the juicy berries of Libya grapes claims that the bunches look very attractive, and the fruits have unusual taste characteristics. The plant is a good option for growing it on a personal plot, so you should consider the features of the grape variety in more detail.
Description of grape variety Libya
Libya is an early ripening variety. From the formation of the ovary to maturity, it is required no more than 100 days... If the branches are evenly loaded, then the crop ripens at the same time. Overloaded vines are capable of bearing only seventy to eighty percent.
The plant is bred as a result crossing Arcadia and Flamingo... A Ukrainian breeder worked on the creation of a new culture. A distinctive feature of the grape plant is large clusters of cylindrical conical shapes. Their average length according to the description is thirty-five centimeters, the weight reaches up to 1 kilogram.
With the organization of proper care, the bushes begin to bear fruit already in the third year of growth.
The culture grows well, stands out for the strength of the trunk and light brown young shoots. The inflorescences are bisexual, the foliage is dense, five-lobed.
Characteristics of berries
The fruits of the grape plant are large. The shape of the berries is oval or ovoid, the average length is 28 mm, width reaches 2 cm... The average weight of one berry is from eleven to thirteen grams, which is considered quite sufficient for this plant.
The skin is pink in color, very soft, practically not felt when eaten. The pulp is fleshy, juicy, which gives the grapes additional value.
Excellent taste combined the pleasantness of grape sweetness and the subtlety of nutmeg aroma. Taste characteristics practically do not change even during storage, which can reach up to thirty days.
Sugar content is high - from seventeen to eighteen grams, with an acidity of five to nine grams per liter.
Each berry contains one - three seeds, which are easily separated from the pulp, without complicating the process of eating the fruit.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Grapes have certain benefits, which include:
- early ripening;
- excellent taste;
- attractive appearance and marketability;
- the ability to maintain quality during long-term transportation;
- stable yields;
- the possibility of long-term storage.
At the same time, there are also negative aspects:
- many note a deficiency in the color of the berries;
- weak plant resistance to powdery mildew and mildew;
- the ability to withstand frosts down to -21 degrees, the need for insulation for the winter season.
Planting is recommended in the spring season.
The place should well lit sunshine, provide verticality of weaving plants. The southern directions of the courtyard are best suited. Any object is able to become a reliable support and create protection from cold winds.
The grape variety does not have special requirements for the soil composition. The scarcity of the soil can be compensated for by constant application of fertilizing compositions.
Perfect option - light loams and chernozems, the groundwater level must go deep.
The landing hole is prepared in advance. With its diameter, it should be several times larger than the size of the root system. Humus is laid in the pit, you can mix it with fertile soil.
The seedling is set in a hole to the root collar remained above the ground... The bush is buried carefully, a strong support post is installed from the north direction. Planting ends with watering, which requires thirty liters of water.
Before planting, the root system of the seedlings can be treated with a preparation that stimulates their further growth.
Care of young and mature vines
Culture loves sufficient moisture... For this reason, it is best to water the vines twice a season - before and after flowering. In a dry season, the amount of introduced moisture must be increased.
Beware of overfilling, which can cause disease.
The need for water in bushes can be judged by the shade of the leaves. Their brownness will indicate that the plant is hot and humid, but the manifestations of chlorosis may be accompanied by dark green foliage.
The soil around the bushes is required mulch... This will help to retain moisture in the ground, protect from cold weather, and perform a nutritional function if the procedure was performed with humus.
Both organic and mineral supplements can be used as nutritional formulations. Most grapes require phosphorus and potassium.
By the winter season, plants need shelter... They are cut off, lowered to the surface of the ground, dry foliage and berries are removed, treated with fungicidal agents, and covered. It is allowed to use film, hay and even plain earth as a covering material.
The main feature of courtship is pruning... It is carried out in order to increase fruiting by cutting off the branches by two to six eyes. When forming a bush, it is recommended to leave three to four sleeves, shortening them every fall.
There are two of them - planting seedlings and grafting.
In the first case, you can achieve excellent indicators in the growth of culture, improve the quality of fruit taste. Grafting will allow you to achieve fruiting more quickly, and there is a likelihood of increased yields.
Diseases and pests
Oidium can destroy the plant completely. The main signs are the appearance of a grayish mildew on the foliage. Then she moves on to shoots, inflorescences and fruits. As a preventive measure, spraying should be carried out using special preparations or colloidal sulfur.
From mildew vines are protected by pruning, pinching, airing. It is allowed to use Bordeaux liquid before and after flowering, before harvesting.
Wasps are a big problem. It is necessary to set up traps with poison, use thin nets and gauze bags, which are wrapped around the brushes.
The grape variety is registered in the State Register of Ukraine. In addition to the southern regions, they are beginning to grow it in other regions. For cultivation in a personal plot, the plant is just perfect.
The Libya grape variety is considered resistant to plant diseases and is classified as early ripening. Superearly Libya is a table grape that appeared among winegrowers on the banks of the Dnieper, thanks to selection work when crossing Flamingo and Arcadia. Its ripening period is only from 105 to 115 days, and the grapevine is harvested by the growers as early as 3-4 years of planting the bushes.
In 2010, Libya passed an expert assessment in Ukraine and was entered into the official Ukrainian state register.
Among the features of this grape variety, its frost resistance is distinguished, which allows the plant to tolerate frosts down to -20 ° C. That is why Libya is often taken for planting in the central Russian regions and in the north.
The fruits of the grapes are distinguished by a muscat aftertaste that does not have a viscosity, and are widely used in winemaking.
Description of grape variety Libya
The Libya grape is a hybrid obtained by crossing the mid-early pink Flamingo and the early white Arcadia grapes. It appeared in Russia in 2014. Hybrid Libya belongs to the varieties of super early varieties. From the beginning of budding to the first harvest of ripe berries, 3.5 months pass. It begins to ripen in May and the first crop can be harvested by the end of July.
This grape has the following characteristics:
- The variety is grown by winegrowers on an industrial scale, as it is ideal for the production of wine and wine material.
- Young vine of Libya begins to bear fruit with quality care for the third season from the moment of planting.
- Cuttings of the variety have good survival rate.
- The plant forms a powerful trunk in the process of growing up.
- The bark of a young culture is light green. As the vine develops, it darkens.
- During the growing season, a large number of ovaries are formed.
- Libya is a self-pollinating variety, thanks to which the vineyard develops and bears fruit when planted alone. It can also act as a pollinator for other types of grapes.
- The leaf plate of the lower leaves is solid. The upper leaves are divided into five lobes.
- The seedlings of this hybrid, grown on their own root system, are more developed and are able to withstand temperatures as low as -21C. According to its technical characteristics, it is suitable for cultivation in the southern regions of the country.
Overloading the vines should not be allowed, since not all bunches will be able to ripen. In this case, the yield will be only 70%. It is necessary to carry out rationing of the yield by removing too many of the forming grape vines.
A more detailed description is presented in the review filmed by Poleznoe TV.
Distinctive characteristics of grape bunches Libya
One of the first advantages of the Libya variety is the formation of especially large bunches.
- Libya's brushes are dotted with berries and gain weight up to 1 kg. The mass of individual specimens reaches 1.5 kg.
- For the most part, the bunches of these grapes are cylindro-conical, but sometimes shapeless can be born. The berries are unevenly distributed over the brush, which makes its structure moderately loose.
- The average length of the Libyan berries is 3 cm, with a diameter of 2 centimeters.
- The average weight of grapes ranges from 10 to 15 g.
- The sugar content in fruits is up to 25%, acidity is 6.4 g per 1 liter.
- As it ripens, the peel takes on a pleasant pink hue. The skin itself is soft, so it is practically not felt when eaten.
- The pulp of the berries has a fleshy consistency and contains a very large amount of juice.
- Taste qualities of grapes combine pleasant sweetness and subtle notes of nutmeg aroma.
- The berry contains from 1 to 4 seeds and is easily separated from the pulp.
- The safety and transportability of the bunches is average, therefore it is not recommended to transport them over long distances.
- The berries tolerate moisture well and retain their integrity well.
- Bunches and berries of grapes of the Libya variety, due to their increased sugar content, are very attractive to wasps. Therefore, it is recommended to protect them from insect attacks during the ripening period.
Characteristics of Libya
There are many different varieties of grapes. What are their differences can be traced by the characteristics. What qualities does Libya grapes have, you can also study from its characteristics presented below.
- The first fruiting occurs only 3 years after planting.
- The variety is fruitful. 25-30 kg of bunches are removed from the bush per season.
No tendency to cracking berries or peas
Most gardeners consider Libya to be a breakthrough in Ukrainian grape breeding. This grape competes with many world-class foreign varieties, so it is not surprising that bushes of this grape can be found in the gardens of Western Europe and America.
Bushes Libya grapes are vigorous. Shoots ripen very well even under heavy crop stress. Ripe vine has a light brown tint. The top of the young shoot is light green, without pubescence.
Sheet has a five-lobed dissected shape, the upper lateral lobes ending in teeth. With the onset of the autumn season, it begins to turn yellow from the edges. The petiolate notch in Libya is open. The flower is bisexual.
Description of the variety
The Libya grape variety was bred by a group of Ukrainian breeders under the leadership of V.V. Zagorulko. by crossing two varieties of Flamingo and Arcadia. In Ukraine, it was registered back in 2011. The variety reached Russia a few years later and was officially entered into the State Register of our country only in 2014. The patent holder is VNII "Magarach". The variety is recommended for use only on the territory of the North Caucasus region.
It is interesting that in the state register there is a grape variety Livia K registered in the same year, which in many characteristics coincides with the source, only the patent holder is the Kuban State University named after Trubilin. In addition, Libya K is recommended for cultivation in all regions of Russia. Apparently, it is a somewhat modified clone of Libya, since its authors are practically the same.
The bushes of the Libya variety are large and powerful in adulthood. The energy for growth is pretty strong. The first lower leaf is formed in one piece, while the others are five-lobed with a medium dissection. Leaf pubescence is absent. For young shoots, a light brown color is characteristic.
Reviews of gardeners about the cultivation of Libya
Libya is one of my favorite varieties. In our conditions, she has one problem - poor maturation of the vine at the slightest overload, she is susceptible to this trouble even more than her ancestor - Arcadia. But if you do not load the replacement escape, then such problems do not arise. And I love this variety for its delicate nutmeg and delicate berry with an invisible skin.Evgeny Polyanin
And I have another problem, the berry burns in the sun. I have to additionally cover the bunches. But otherwise, it's just gorgeous.Alexey Filippov
Libya with two treatments with thanos every year I have enough mildew. Yesterday I removed it, I didn’t measure sugar, but it tasted sugary sweet like Super Extra. We'll have to do one more processing, mildew appeared on several sheets: bf:. This year, after the strongest hail, it was necessary to remove 30 percent of the berries: :(:, but so far the rot does not develop especially, just before the hail I did the processing with a switch.Grishin Vladimir
In my Libya, the vine always ripens to the top of the trellis. And the bush with a standard shelter without any visors winters perfectly.Petrov Vladimir
The grape variety Libya is ranked among the unique selection varieties that are developed as a result of a single or multiple selection of different varieties. He has already managed to fall in love with domestic winegrowers. The variety is excellent for growing in non-traditional areas for viticulture and does not require special knowledge and skills. Libya is distinguished by its unpretentiousness and high yield, and huge sweet berries with an amazing caramel flavor will appeal to both adults and children.
