Rocket: medicinal properties, method of use and benefits
ROCKET or RUCCHETTA
The rocket or rocket, whose scientific name is Eruca sativa Mill., Belongs to the family of Apiaceae, native to Europe and spontaneously grows almost everywhere.
It is an annual herbaceous plant, bushy with an erect stem up to 40 cm tall. The leaves are basal, pinnatosette. The flowers are small, yellowish-white with delightful violet veins. It blooms in spring - summer.
The rocket contains a glycoside that generates a sulphocyanic essence.
Its properties are: purifying, digestive, stimulating, tonic, emollient.
USED PARTS OF THE PLANT
The most tender leaves of the rocket are used, collected from May until autumn. It is eaten fresh.
HOW TO USE IT
Raw rocket is an excellent stimulant in cases of weakness and asthenia.
Eaten regularly for at least 15 days it is an excellent diuretic and detoxifier.
In the kitchen, due to its particular, slightly spicy flavor, it is used to flavor various dishes.
The cultivated rocket has a sweeter taste than the wild rocket which remains more spicy and with a much stronger taste.
Arugula or arugula is also known as wrinkle herb.
There are no contraindications reported for its use.
