Detailed description and characteristics of the variety of tomato shuttle

Detailed description and characteristics of the variety of tomato shuttle

There is a large selection of early-ripening tomatoes on the seed market. One of them is, variety Chelnok selected for the Russian climate, the characteristics and description of which are presented below. The endurance and unpretentiousness of this variety is great for gardeners who are not burdened with experience. The first informational acquaintance determines the choice: is it worth trying or not.

Tomato shuttle

First, you should consider the characteristics of the variety and description, its positive and negative qualities.

Characteristics of the variety

The fruits are smooth, glossy. Elongated oval shape, with a small pointed tip... In the mature state, the color reaches a dark red tone with an outflow to an orange tint.

The pulp is fleshy, divided by three seed chambers with a small filling of grains.

Covered with a dense skin (no hardness), which has a positive effect on the transportation of fruits and good storage. Prevents fruit cracking. Growing weight outdoors varies from forty-five to seventy grams. Greenhouse performance is slightly higher.

Perfectly proven in all types of canning, especially in small containers... They are also used fresh: whole (children like them for their shape and size) and in salads (unobtrusive sweetish taste with a slight sour note).

The harvest of ripe tomatoes begins in the first summer month.

Fruiting can continue until the onset of frost. For such medium-sized tomatoes, the yield is at a high level: at least five kilograms per square meter. And with proper care, you can collect all eight.

Determinant (undersized) early ripening variety with early onset of fruiting.

The distinctive property of cold resistance allows early planting in open ground, getting a harvest in the cool summer period. The variety is resistant to late blight.

The plant is represented by a bush with a low (up to 55 centimeters) strong stem. Compact with low branching, does not require garters, shaping and pinching. Suitable for growing in confined areas.

Inflorescences begin to appear after the seventh leaf. The onset of fruiting comes in the third month from the first shoots.

Many statements of people who wished to grow a shuttle speak for the conformity of the declared qualities. The compactness of a bush of a medium green massif does not require pinching or tying. It showed itself well in the Urals and in the West Siberian region... Inflorescences alternate with two leaves. High yield is present in the open field with long-term fruiting. The firmness of the fruit proved to be good for canning whole fruit in small jars (up to one liter).

Regret was caused only by the confirmed fact of a poorly expressed taste in the preparation of salads.

Pros and cons of the variety

Like all crops grown, there are positive and negative points.

  • Early ripening fruits.
  • Long-term storage no processing.
  • Small fruit size contributes to the ease of winter blanks in small containers.
  • Ease of growing, in the absence of favorable conditions.

  • Weakly saturated scent.
  • Taste does not dominate when consumed in processed form.

How to properly cultivate tomatoes

Cultivation is carried out by seedling method, from seeds. Usually the plant is planted in open ground from the end of spring, without delaying the process for a very long time (until the beginning of June). When planting seedlings, small amounts of wood ash are added to the soil, directly under the roots.

Now you need to figure out, observing what conditions it will be possible to grow a good crop of tomatoes.

Conditions for landing

Raise the varietal view should be through the seedlings. Chelnok tomatoes are not demanding in care. For the cultivation of this culture, general recommendations are still provided.

Landing dates

The seeds are sown from the end of February to mid-March. This is the most suitable time for the preparation of planting material (seedlings) for open cultivation with an early ripening period.

Where to plant the shuttle and what soil is needed

The place where the tomato garden will grow is prepared in the fall. The place is chosen with good lighting, ventilated, but in the absence of drafts... The plot is used after growing greens (parsley, dill), climbing crops (cucumbers, zucchini), root crops (carrots) or cabbage on it.

It is worth avoiding the neighborhood with potatoes, peppers and eggplants.

The difference between growing in a greenhouse and outdoors

Growing conditions in a greenhouse contribute to an increase in the growth of a bush with enlarged fruits.

If it is possible to grow greenhouse varieties with large fruits, it makes no sense to occupy an area for planting a well-growing soil species.

The main purpose of the seedling method is obtained by early production. Sowing seeds on the street at a later period of time is also practiced.

Sowing shuttle for seedlings

Preparation begins with the substrate. For its preparation, sand with black earth is used in equal parts. Further, the lingering humus is mixed in a double amount. The seeds are slightly sunk into the prepared soil, wake up in a small peat layer, moisten... A film is stretched over the container with landings. The container is placed in a warm place. After a week, the first shoots will appear.

How to prepare seed

A 10 minute soak is used to disinfect the seed in a heated (slightly above body temperature) solution of aqueous hydrogen peroxide.

Choosing a container for planting

Here there are no restrictions on the use or prohibition on the use of any materialsused in the production of containers.

Paper, peat and plastic pots will do.

How to care for shuttle seedlings

Required regular ventilation of the mini greenhouse and control of the state of soil moisture... When dry, the surface is sprayed from a spray bottle. Before the emergence of shoots, the temperature regime is maintained up to 24 degrees Celsius. The next step is to remove the film over the sprouts, lower the degree column to around 16 in plus during the day, and 13+ at night. Watering is carried out with soft water.

Step-by-step picking of seedlings

It is carried out in individual containers (if planted in a common container) with the simultaneous removal of unformed shoots. First selection at the stage of unfolded cotyledonous leaf... Repeat with 3 - 4 main leaves.

Planting seedlings in open ground

Pre-hardening is carried out at +8 - +10 degrees outside the window. Duration up to one and a half hours. Warming up the earth to a dozen degrees signals the possibility of placing tomatoes in a permanent place.

Sowing scheme

Seedlings are planted up to four bushes per square meter with a distance between plants up to forty centimeters.

The need remains in weeding, loosening, watering and feeding the planted crops.

How to water a plant

From the moment the bushes are planted on the street, watering is carried out in an operating mode once a week with moistening a quarter meter deep. With the formation and ripening of fruits, the amount of watering increases: for four plants three dozen liters.

Top dressing of tomatoes

Complex fertilizer is applied for the first time when planting seedlings. Further feeding is carried out at intervals of a week. Both organics and minerals are introduced. Each instance absorbs up to one liter of fertilizer.

Major pests and diseases

Late blight resistance does not guarantee safety against other common diseases. Possible damage by anthracnose tomatoes, powdery mildew. Most diseases come from fallen leaves and from weeds. Keeping the beds clean is an effective preventive measure.

Of the pests are dangerous: Colorado potato beetle, melon aphid, bear and spider mite. Soap solution will come to the rescue. For severe injuries, insecticides are used.

Under favorable weather conditions, the first ripe tomatoes appear after three months from germination. Ripening occurs alternately, which provokes the maturation of the latter in the fall.... Good yields are possible even in the absence of a warm summer.

Everyone is able to check on their own experience the ease of care and the declared yield. After all, this the variety is able to please with homemade tomatoes not only in the garden on the site, but also in the city, on the balcony.

Description of the variety: The shuttle belongs to the early varieties, 110 days pass from the emergence of sprouts to the collection of fruits, and only 95 days in the greenhouse.

Characteristics and description of fruits: they have a sweetish dessert taste. The fruits are harvested from June 10 to October. The first inflorescence grows at a bush over 6 - 7 leaves.

Description of tomatoes Shuttle - the fruits are somewhat elongated, have a sharp tip, similar in shape to pepper. Tomato weight - 50 - 60 g. Tomatoes can be eaten fresh, put in salads, canned, squeezed juices, made sauces.

Description of the bushes: 40 - 50 cm high, few leaves, 7 - 10 ovaries are formed on one brush. The stepchildren do not cut off the bush, because of this, up to 40 tomatoes can be tied on it. Collect 5 - 8 kg of fruits from 1 m², and from a bush - 1.25 - 2 kg of tomatoes.

Description of the variety

The characteristic and description of the variety of tomatoes "Shuttle" is expressed in the following parameters inherent in this unique type of tomato:

These tomatoes have all the external characteristics that other varieties of tomatoes have. However, there are also moments that distinguish these fruits from others. As you can see in the photo, their shape is pronounced cylindrical, has sharp ends, elongated along, somewhat resembling a shuttle, hence their famous name.

The color of the fruits of these tomatoes is dark red, there is a slight shift in the orange spectrum. Their skin is very smooth and quite dense, which allows tomatoes to be resistant to various minor damage and impact.

The pulp of these tomatoes is abundant, but there are very few seeds. This gives the fruits an excellent, well-remembered taste, and the fruits are tasty, not only fresh, but also canned. Due to the fact that there is a lot of sugar in tomatoes, they can be safely given to young children without fear of poisoning and indigestion.

Since the size of the fruits of the "Shuttle" tomatoes are not very large, they can be easily canned, conveniently placed in small glass jars.

Bushes "Shuttle" have such parameters and characteristics that they can be easily bred in areas limited in size. After all, their maximum height is never higher than half a meter, and usually even less.

You can even grow them on an ordinary balcony of a city high-rise building, and the resulting tomatoes will not differ in taste from their counterparts from the garden in the village.

The “Shuttle” tomato has a very hard, straight stem, which prevents the bush from falling off to the side. It is because of this feature that the tomato bush is warmed up by the sun from all sides, without shady areas, this makes it possible for the fruits to quickly and actively develop.

Also, the bushes of the "Shuttle" do not need to be huddled, pinned, there is no need for shaping and there is no need to tie it up. You just need to water and remove pests on time.

If tomatoes are planted in open beds, then tasty fruits will appear for the first time after three months, and if they are kept in a greenhouse, then even earlier.

From one bush, you can get about ten fruits. If you grow this wonderful plant correctly, then up to five kilograms of tomatoes will easily come out from one square meter.

Due to the fact that the leaves of these tomatoes are small, they are planted tightly, bush to bush. The minimum distance between bushes can be about thirty centimeters, and the distance between rows is about half a meter.

Advantages and disadvantages

The tomato variety Shuttle has many positive qualities. Based on the above characteristics and many years of experience in growing it on personal plots, we can distinguish:

  • good yield in different climatic zones
  • resistance to temperature changes
  • the possibility of growing in different conditions (garden bed, greenhouse, balcony)
  • unpretentious care
  • great fruit taste
  • universal purpose of tomatoes.

The disadvantages of the tomato variety Shuttle are:

  • small fruit size
  • the need to prevent late blight in rainy years.

As you can see, there are not so many shortcomings to refuse to plant it.

Description of tomato variety Shuttle

This tomato has an unusual shape, so it is easy to recognize it from the photo or picture on the seed bag. The Tomato Shuttle has a slightly elongated shape, has a smooth, dense skin and a sharp tip. The fruits are small, so they are ideal for pickling.

One fruit has a mass of no more than 100 grams, so it will fit well into the jar. This tomato variety tastes like sugar, therefore it is suitable not only for preservation, but also for making salads. Tomato bushes reach a height of no more than 45 cm, so there is no need to tie the plant up. The cultivation of the tomato variety The shuttle is carried out in the open field, with 1 sq. m no more than 4 plants are planted.

According to the description of the variety of tomato Khelnok, it belongs to the ultra-early ripening. Already after 80-100 days after germination, you will be able to harvest. Another advantage of the Shuttle tomato is that it is suitable for growing in regions with cool climates, for example, in the Urals or Siberia. You can plant this variety outdoors a little earlier than other tomato varieties.

Tomatoes Shuttle: variety features and growing rules

Perhaps one of the most unique varieties is the Shuttle tomato. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it is quite resistant to cold weather. This allows the crop to be planted in early spring and harvested in early summer.

Landing rules

Initially, seedlings are prepared, the seeds of this variety are planted in containers at the beginning of May, and then dive is carried out. In regions with warm climates, it is possible to plant seeds directly in open ground. The seedlings reach the required growth and are planted in open ground in May. The soil before planting can be fertilized and well moistened.

Experts note that the cultivation of a crop is quite unpretentious. This vegetable variety does not need a lot of space, since it does not have large thickets of foliage. Therefore, on a square meter of land, you can easily plant 4 tomato bushes. For planting, you need to choose a cool, cloudy day.

Ideally, it is better to plant the plants in the morning, for watering it is worth preparing the water in advance so that it is not too cold and has time to settle a little. The first complementary food is carried out when the first ovary appears on the bushes. On the twigs, up to 6-8 ovaries may appear, which form gradually throughout the summer. It will give its first fruits in 95-100 days.

Tomato care

Despite the fact that the cultivation of tomatoes by the Shuttle is considered simple, they still need special care.

Watering should be carried out in the morning or evening, when the sun cannot burn the plant if it gets wet and moisture can stay in the soil longer. For irrigation, water must be defended and watered under the bottom of the bush, avoiding water getting on the leaves and fruits. Plants are watered infrequently; in the absence of extreme heat, they can be watered once every 10 days.

Tomato Shuttle, although it is considered a hardy species, is still, like other crops, susceptible to many diseases.

This type of tomato does not need to be pinched and tied up at all due to its short stature and small greenery, which again makes it easy to care for.

Of course, we do not disregard the soil, it needs weeding and loosening, as usual. For the entire period of vegetable growth, no more than 3-4 dressings are carried out. With proper care, the Tomato Shuttle will give its ripe and beautiful fruits already in mid-June and its ovary can continue until the cold autumn.

I was advised to plant the Tomato Shuttle when I just started gardening, they recommended it as an unpretentious and undemanding variety. Now I can say that it is, despite many of my mistakes, the bushes did not hurt at all, they gave a good harvest, but I planted them only in a greenhouse. Even now I have not given up on the Shuttle, I grow it for salting, in juices, I use other varieties for food. The taste is not bad if the tomatoes are ripe on the bush - they are sweet, and the ripened at home are a little sour. The stem, of course, is powerful, but the bushes lie without a garter.

As for an early ripening variety, the taste of the Shuttle is not bad, but the skin is thick and dense, such tomatoes are not suitable for eating. By the second decade of August, the plant is hung with fruits, which ripen gradually, 3-4 pcs. To collect at a time into several cans (pickle or salt), you need to plant at least 10 bushes. Previously, they lived in the Moscow region, now a dacha in Omsk, everywhere the variety grew in open ground and there were no problems with it. If the spring is cold, I cover the planting with spunbond or film on the arcs. I tried to leave no more than 3 stems, the tomatoes are larger, but the harvest is less.

We have highlighted all the advantages of the tomato Shuttle, but its main value, according to most gardeners, is reliability, unpretentiousness and cold resistance. The agrotechnics of the variety is very simple, a beginner can grow it, but you should not ignore the elementary recommendations, it is easier to prevent plants from developing diseases than to cure them later. Even after timely, correct treatment, the yield will noticeably decrease.
