Prescription of wasp remedy!
Poking away an existing wasp nest is not something you do with impunity. Feel free to try these recipes, which are much cheaper and more environmentally friendly than what is sold in stores.
Agents that scare away wasps:
This recipe for wasp remedies is sprayed on nests or where they usually stay. If it is a nest, make sure it is in the morning when they are still resting. You do not have to hit the wasps directly, but it is enough that the place is sprayed, for example the curtain, the cloth or the balcony floor. Wasps do not like the smell of peppermint. Lucky we do!
Recipe for wasp remedy with peppermint:
Mix 1 tablespoon of peppermint oil (available at pharmacies, natural pharmacies, and grocery stores among baked goods) with 1 liter of water in a spray bottle.
Remedies that attract wasps:
Why should you attract wasps? Not where you sit - but away from where you sit. It can be juice, soft drink (not light), beer, jam, sugar solution, overripe fruit or a small piece of raw meat / chicken. These are the same lids used in wasp traps, but in this way they are not caught and killed.
Whatever you choose, pour / place in a bowl and place a few meters away from where you are going to sit and eat. Preferably an hour before. Then the wasps are attracted there before you come out and your good scents start to spread.
Basic recipe for syrup against wasps:
Boil a syrup on one part sugar and two parts water. When it has cooled, pour the law into a bowl.

Sale Ahlström's apple pie cake
Maria Planting's mother, Sabeths, kakbravur was the gingerbread, in all its elegant simplicity. The favorites today are a bit "tuned" versions of the same. In her fine cookbook "Better a bird in the pot", her friend Rea Ahlström gives a wonderful recipe for an apple pie cake that is a huge success every time Maria bakes it, generally in the autumn when the apple harvest ripens.
Quantity: 8 people - Cooking time: 60 minutes (Preparation time: 20 Cooking time: 40)
- 100 grams (g) butter - (apple cake)
- 2 eggs - (apple cake)

- 1.25 deciliters (dl) wheat flour - (apple cake)
- 2 teaspoons (teaspoon) vanilla sugar - (apple cake)
- 2 apples - (apple cake)
- 1 teaspoon (teaspoon) cinnamon - (apple cake)
- 100 grams (g) butter - (tosca glaze)
- 1.5 deciliters (dl) sugar - (tosca glaze)
- 100 grams (g) almond shavings - (tosca glaze)
- 2 tablespoons (tbsp) wheat flour - (tosca glaze)
- 1 tablespoon (tbsp) milk - (tosca glaze)
- 1 teaspoon (teaspoon) salt - (tosca glaze)
My own mother Sabeth's cake bravura was the gingerbread, in all its elegant simplicity. The favorites today are a bit tunade versions of the same. My friend Rea Ahlström gives in her nice cookbook Better a bird in the pot a wonderful recipe for an apple pie cake that is a huge success every time I bake it, generally in the autumn when the apple harvest ripens.
Melt the butter and let it cool down. Whisk eggs and sugar to a white batter. Mix in wheat flour, vanilla sugar and melted butter. Pour the batter into a greased cake tin with a removable bottom. Peel and grate the apples and cut them into thin slices. Press the slices lightly into the batter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake (on the bottom seam in the oven, my note) at 175 degrees for 25 - 30 minutes.
Melt butter and sugar in a saucepan. Mix almond shavings and flour while stirring. Add milk and salt. Pour the hot tosca mixture on the cake and (high up in the oven, my note) bake at 200 degrees for another 10 minutes. Serve with ice cream, custard or whipped cream.
PS. If you are making the cake in the spring, hide small pieces of rhubarb and a little grated ginger under the crunchy skin.
Drop birch sap - so do you
Alexandra De Paoli Yle
Birch sap is rich in vitamins and minerals and gives an energy boost in the spring. Between frostbite and leaf cracking, I revel in birch sap and feel the spirits of life return after the winter.
It used to be said that you would go out into the woods and drink marrow in your legs in the spring and that was basically what you did. Birch sap is rich in vitamin C and potassium and many people usually feel refreshed by drinking birch sap after a long and dark winter.
The birch sap is versatile
A birch can produce between a pint and several liters of sap per day. The saw tastes sweet and a little birch wood, which is tastier than it sounds. The right dose is one drinking glass a day and the remaining juice can be frozen or used as a dough liquid when baking bread. Some ferment the juice into sparkling wine. It stays in the fridge for a few days, then it starts to ferment.
Clog the wound
Remember to always put a bandage on the birch when you are done with the bottling, otherwise it can stand and bleed sap all summer. Some people snap off a branch and put a bottle on the stump of the branch when they are going to take a saw, but I think that is a little unfriendly to the tree because it is not possible to bandage such a wound.
Between frostbite and leaf cracking
The sawing is done between frost removal and leaf cracking, then the tree needs the sawing itself. As long as you do not take too much from each tree and do not work for too long, the birch is not damaged by the sawing.
According to the Right of Public Access, you need the landowner's permission to drop birch sap. It is seldom a problem if you tell them you are careful and plug the holes behind you when you are done.
What you need:
A drill, about 6 mm in diameter
Straw with bend or a hose that fits in the hole
A bottle, at least 0.75 liters (a birch can be sawn very quickly so take a large bottle)
String holding a bottle full of sap
How to use:
1. Drill a small hole in the birch, about 6 mm in diameter and 5 cm deep
2. Tie a bottle under the hole
3. Insert a straw or hose into the hole and lower it into the bottle
4. Keep an eye on the birch so you can change the bottle when the first one gets full
5. When you are done - carve into a wooden plug that is a little too big for the hole
6. Insert the plug into the hole so that the juice stops dripping
7. Thank the birch
8. Choose another birch next year
